Holy Roman Emperor x Disputed Bid
A terrific lightly raced tried horse pick-up 3yo, The Herald by Holy Roman Emperor (IRE), from city winning mare Disputed Bid. The Herald is the fourth foal to race from the dam, all winners!
The Herald was originally purchased as a weaning and raced by Waratah Thoroughbreds which regularly reduce their stock to keep numbers down and we were thrilled to pick him up on this week’s Inglis Digital online auction.
In just 4 starts, The Herald has recorded 1 x win, and 2 x fourths in his short career. The Herald form
His first run in December last year was an eye-catching debut finishing 4th in a very strong 1200m maiden race at Goulburn only beaten 1L. The winner of that race, As You Were (NZ) has since placed at Warwick Farm in a benchmark 64 race, and there have been 3 other subsequent winners from that race, including Sweet Biscuit which has won it's last 2 starts.
December 17 – 4th at Goulburn, red & white colours.
The Herald’s next run was at Nowra over 1400m, where he went off as a short price favourite and led all the way to win. That day he beat Spitfire which has since placed twice in city class races, and they ran faster time overall than the class 2 over the same distance on the same day. Good form references for a maiden race and a key piece of the puzzle when sourcing tried horses.
January 9 – 1st at Nowra, red & white colours.
The Herald then stepped up to 1600m at Goulburn but over-raced badly and was forced to race wide throughout before dropping out. A run that can easily be excused, following this run he was spelled for 5-months.
The Herald resumed recently at Kembla Grange on July 16 in a class 1, 1200m and caught the eye flashing home late to finish 4th beaten 2L. This is considered a strong form race with Pole Position (2nd) placed at benchmark 64 level previously, and Slickman (3rd) a highly promising horse with a big finish.
July 16 – 4th at Kembla, red & white colours.
Following that run at Kembla he was offered for sale.
We’re confident we’ve picked-up The Herald at just the right time. He has been back in work for 12-weeks, but only had one run this preparation and is ready to head straight back to the races. He would be ideally placed in a set weights class 1 in the country to start off with, but with the scope to make it to Highway grade after 3 runs for his new trainer.
He is exactly the type of tried horse we love to buy, lightly raced with good, exposed form, and with only one win next to his name so much upside still ahead of him. We have had great success purchasing horses with similar form profiles.
To be trained by Mitch Beer at Albury who Patriot Bloodstock have enjoyed great success with over the last 12 months.
