Monotone is a lightly raced 3yo, still a maiden with plenty of upside and exactly the type of horse we love to buy at Patriot. He comes out of some very strong races in quick time which we are always looking for when selecting our tried horses.

On debut, Monotone was beaten 4.7L to stakes-winner Caffe Florian at Canterbury. A race that has produced 9 subsequent winners, and our horse is still a maiden.

At his second start, Montone ran 4.1L 8^th at Canterbury in a race that has produced a further 5 subsequent winners.

This prep, Monotone ran 4^th first-up at Hawkesbury behind the very promising Fitzclarence, in a race where they ran 33.21 last 600m, the fastest sectional of the entire meeting and for maiden horses, while last start he ran 2^nd to what looks a very smart middle-distance horse, Aethelwulf at Newcastle. The 3^rd horse, Gridlock went to a Saturday race at Rosehill next start and ran 4^th. These are terrific form references that give us great confidence Monotone can win races with a change of jurisdiction.

We’ve had great success with the ex-Godolphin horses including recent winners for Patriot Presides, and Polymer. We love buying their horses, they come with a full vet history, are typically very sound, and we get great longevity out of them as they can race for many seasons.

Monotone being a maiden horse has to the scope to win a couple of races quickly to recoup our investment, and the potential to work through his grades in South East Queensland.
